An Ode to Lilly Moon

Most of us that have had the great pleasure to cohabitate with a beloved pet have also had the deep grief of losing them!

A short month ago, we had to say goodbye to our sweet cat… Lilly Moon.

I have told the following story many times over … but I would like to tell it one more time, far and wide… because magic shows up in the most wonderful places, and that always makes for an interesting tale!

Early in the spring of 2008, Doug and I were sitting on the couch, having a conversation about how this was the very first time in both of our lives that we did not have a pet. We mused that the timing was perfect… we wanted to do a little travelling and we were super busy with our four boys!

The very next morning a young cat was sitting on the fence post with her face pressed up against the kitchen window, meowing loudly, watching Doug do the dishes.

“Do not feed her!” I implored! “We just talked about this last night!”

HE FED HER!

The next part of this story requires a little background info…

Everyone has their very own fairie (and a dragon too, but that is for another story). This fairie has travelled with you for your entire life and is always present in your energy field, helping and guiding and playing tricks!

I have always known my fairie… she is one of my favourite friends, a trusted counsel, an instigator of trouble and my connection to other energy realms.

Her name is Lily of the Moon and she has a very distinct energy signature for me… a silver flow that is made up of beautifully intricate geometry.

OK… back to our regularly scheduled programming…

The little cat was going nowhere now that Doug was offering up a saucer of cream each morning. I tried to ignore her for several days, pretending that she was an intruder and did not belong.

And then one sunny morning, as I was sitting on the edge of the deck, the little cat crawled into my lap and as she looked up at me, Lily of the Moon’s energy reflected in her eyes and flowed down the fur on her back and off of her tail.

It took me by such surprise. “Lily??” I exclaimed loudly! The energy flowed through her eyes and coat again and again until I knew without a doubt that this little cat was definitely here to stay.

We changed the spelling a little bit and shortened her moniker to a simple - Lilly Moon.

Doug’s boys arrived later that afternoon and were delighted to find a new pet in the house. Our friend Frank drove up on his motorcycle and the boys ran up to him holding their new friend.

”Frank, Frank… we got a new cat! Guess what her name is?”

Frank replied “Hmmm… I don’t know? Lilly?”

“How did you know? How did you know?” The boys chorused in unison.

Frank could not have looked more surprised and Doug and I knew that we had just witnessed a day filled with pure magic!

Lilly Moon lived with us for the next 16 years and continued to be an orchestrator of magic moments almost daily.

Countless visitors to our home saw their first fairie because of Lilly Moon.  When she was chasing her tail, I would get our visitors to watch it closely… they would enviably say “something just pulled her fur” Yes, the fairies!

When she wanted in & out and in & out and in & out of the patio door, I would ask our guests to focus on the door with slightly squinted eyes, so that they may see the fairies teasing Lily as they passed effortlessly through the glass. “I see coloured sparkles” our visitors would exclaim. Yes, the fairies!

Another little piece of magic that she offered… No one was allergic to Lilly. People with severe cat allergies could somehow snuggle up to her with zero negative effect. Many guests to our home commented that she was the only cat that they had ever been able to get close to!

I have hundreds of stories about the magic that Lilly invited into our home and lives… but I would like to end this blog story by imploring  you to enjoy the sweet physicalness of your pets while they are present in their bodies while also paying attention to their energy.

Animals are so connected to Source Energy that physical and energetic feels very much the same to them. They do not carry the same kind of resistance that we humans tend to pack around. So when they leave their physical bodies they do not really go anywhere and if you have practiced paying attention to the energetic, magic parts of them… you will forever have access to their sweet love and attention.

Lilly Moon still follows Doug around constantly, curls up to sleep in the cutest spots and flows magic into our hearts! ❤️

If you are interested in honing your energy watching skills… we have two of our early workshops “How to Talk to Dead Guys” and “The Energy of Nature” that will give you some easy tools to help explore the magic that surrounds you! Click HERE to check them out!
