I have always loved the moon. My mom tells a story of how she would sometimes find little me outside on our small hobby farm in the middle of the night on a full moon. While collecting me to bring me inside and put me back to bed, she would ask what I was doing outside? My 4-and-a-half-year-old response…. ‘The little sun is up!’ I fell even deeper in awe of the moon and its effect on all aspects of our planet while studying Astrology in my late 30s… aspects like the movement of ocean tides, growth of vegetation and animal and human behaviour. Before studying astrology, I just appreciated the moon, but Astrology taught me to notice the moon’s consistent monthly orbit and recognize the dependability (predictability) of her phases <heart> So, for this week let’s look at the Full Moon phase… A full moon is when the earth is between the sun and the moon. The moon does not generate its own light and simply reflects the light of the sun. During a full moon the fully reflective face of the moon can be observed and enjoyed from the earth. The full moon is the start of the 3rd quarter moon phase. Unlike the start of the 1st quarter with the new moon where the moon is dark, a full moon is fully illuminated. This phase represents shining a bright light on all you have decided or acted upon since the new moon two weeks ago. This is a time to be honest with yourself about the actions and processes you have taken these last two weeks and decide where you need to adjust or tweak to get you back on track. This is also a time to celebrate and cheer yourself on for all you have created, acted on and accomplished so far!! I know for myself, all too often, I forget to celebrate little wins; finding it easier to judge myself for goals I have only met part-way. Often I want to outsource my own validation by hoping others celebrate me, but I am learning that celebrating my accomplishments and validating my own progress is my own responsibility – and frankly this is extremely empowering! Here are some full moon practices for you to consider making your own: Gratitude Journaling
Props needed:
Your favourite notebook or electronic device
Find a comfortable spot to sit and make a list of things you are grateful for in relation to accomplishments and decisions made in the last few weeks
Remember to clearly identify 2 or 3 points of gratitude that you have for yourself
When you have finished journaling your gratitude points take a few deep breaths and invite these feelings of gratefulness to expand inside your body with every breath
Full Moon Celebration
Props needed:
Yourself and something to share
This celebration can be done on your own or with friends and family
Decide a time and place to gather, and if possible, spend some time outside and bask in the moon light
If the weather is too cold or the skies are overcast, spend some time near a window and take a few minutes to close your eyes and take a few deep breaths while imagining the full brightness of the moon pouring over and filling you and your guests
Share drinks, food, and conversations of accomplishments, support, encouragement and gratitude… always gratitude
Clear & Charge Your Crystals
Props needed:
Any crystal or gems you have that you would like to clear & charge
If you’re into crystals, gather them up and place them on a windowsill where the full moon light can reach them
Leave them on the windowsill overnight (or continuously if you prefer)
If you don’t have windowsill available for this, place your crystals in a bowl or plate and place it outside under the moon light.
Leave your plate of crystals outside overnight if they are in a safe place and it is not winter
Otherwise just leave them outside for 20 minutes to an hour
The intention of this practice also works on a cloudy full moon night… the moon and her full moon energy is not blocked by clouds
Once charged continue to use your crystals as you normally would
Make Moon Water
Props needed:
Glass jar with lid
Drinking water
Fill your jar with water and close it with the lid
Feel free to decorate the jar with words, stickers, ribbon, string, etc
Place your jar of water on a windowsill with access to the moon light
Leave it on the windowsill overnight.
Again, if you don’t have a windowsill available for this, place your jar of water outside under the moon light
Leave your jar of water out overnight if it is in a safe place and it is not winter
Otherwise just leave outside for 20 minutes to an hour
Once charged, use the moon water throughout the next 4 weeks as follows:
Add a tablespoon of it to your morning smoothie or coffee/tea
Add a tablespoon of it to the watering can when watering your plants
Add a tablespoon of it to your pet’s water dishes
Add some to your bath or pour a small amount onto a plate and have it evaporate in the sauna with you
Use it for anything else you feel led to do so ♥
Whether you love the moon and her phases, don’t really pay attention to it or find yourself somewhere in between, it is our hope that yesterday’s full moon illuminates you and lights you up with the knowing that the world is a better place because you are in it…. celebrating, connecting, creating and giving thanks!!
