My blog a few weeks ago was called ‘Meditating YOUR Way’, where I shared the benefits and practice of meditating.
If you’re up for it, I have another ‘M’ word I would like to chat about… Manifesting 😊 If you’re like me, I’m sure you have come across this word repeatedly on social media, in books or articles, and maybe even in conversations with friends, family or colleagues. Perhaps you’ve seen ‘The Secret’ movie or follow some of the same gurus I do (Abraham Hicks, Mike Dooley, Wayne Dyer, Gabby Bernstein, etc) in hopes of gaining a better understanding of what Manifesting actually is.
Over the years, I have heard slogans and mantras like ‘thoughts become things’, ‘think positive’, ‘everything happens for a reason’, and so on. Although I can totally get on board with reminding myself of these slogans by sticking them to my bathroom mirror or setting them as my phone’s wallpaper... there always seemed to be a bit of a disconnect and a lingering whisper in the back of my mind that says…. “Does it REALLY work??”
Well, according to the above-mentioned gurus, the key to manifesting what you want successfully and consistently is to emotionally FEEL the positive thoughts you are thinking.
Hmmm, ok...
So, it’s not my thoughts that cause me to manifest what I want; it’s the feelings my thoughts bring up in me? <thinking emoji>
When things are going well, it’s easy to get into a state of thinking happy positive thoughts about how it would FEEL if all the things I want and desire were already real.
But what happens when I’m having a shit day, or feeling stressed, overwhelmed and things are NOT going my way?
It’s almost impossible in these shitty moments to change how I am feeling simply by thinking positive thoughts. In these moments, trying to force ‘positive’ feelings seems unattainable, fake and so far from the truth.
So, does this mean I am at the mercy of my feelings on days when I’m having sad, overwhelming, frustrating or generally shitty experiences?? How can I use my thoughts to change my feelings then??
When we are in the middle of some emotional chaos the best thing is to honestly look at what you are feeling. These are great times to reach out for any support you may need... connect with friends, mentors or health professionals or some other meaningful resources.
In my own experience, getting into a mindset where I am using my thoughts to feel what it would be like if my dreams were a reality... is a practice I do daily and even many times throughout the day.
The key to manifesting is 3-part…
First, get clear on what you desire or want to manifest. This can be as simple or as complicated as you want. It could be as simple as experiencing as many green lights as possible on your drive home from work, to increasing your monthly income by 10% or anything in between.
Second, think about WHY you want to manifest your desire and how you would FEEL if your desire was already real right now.
Third, think the thoughts that you would think if your desires were real right now. Think these thoughts first thing in the morning, as many times throughout the day as you wish or need and again as you go to sleep at night.
Remember… you’re thinking thoughts about the feelings you would feel if your desire was your present reality RIGHT NOW and let go of needing to know how your dream will come about.
If you’re interested in practicing and exploring your manifesting mindset, here are some daily practices that I use:
Journaling
Write out all the emotions and feelings you would have if your desire was true right now.
Write in present tense as though your desire is already true.
Speaking
Speak aloud the emotions and feelings you would imagine you would have if your desire was true right now.
Movement
Turn on your favourite tunes and move your body in wild and fun ways… dance like nobody is watching while thinking about the feelings you would have if your desire was true right now!!
A manifesting mindset is a daily practice and can help shift your outlook, change your perspectives and help you see the many blessings already present in your beautiful life!!
