The Permission of Astrology

Hello Sweet Friends ♥

I know that I have shared in previous blogs that I love the moon… this remains true! And yet my fascination reaches beyond the moon and her glowing comfort to other activity and intersections in our solar system! 🌎

I had the opportunity to study Astrology with Robert Ohotto from 2010-2013. The experience provided me with profound insights, while leaving me curious and confused all at the same time. The deeper we dove into the study of planetary movements, aspects, transits, houses, nodes, degrees of influence and so on, the more profound and confusing astrology seemed! My continued study of astrology truly made the age-old Socrates quote ring true…

“The only true wisdom is knowing you know nothing.”  🤔

Since my formal introduction to astrology in 2010, I have never stopped learning, practicing and honing this craft. Still, all these years later, I feel at times that I am still a newbie in my understanding of all the layers and nuances that affect the human experience as seen through the lens of astrology.

So… are our personalities, life experiences, perceptions and understandings of life as we know it really affected by the activity of planet movement and transitions within our solar system??

For me, the answer to this question is a resounding ‘Yes!” However, the true answer to this question for you… is for you to decide for yourself ♥

Let’s start at the beginning… what is astrology?

Simply put, astrology is a map of you!

Your astrological chart (or natal chart) is as unique to you as your fingerprint or iris scan! To me, this is the exciting part… if everyone’s astrological chart is unique unto themselves, then there is no standard to be measured by that could claim to be normal! And if there is no normal, then there is no wrong (or right) way to be! 🤯 There is just the YOU way to be!!

Because an astrology chart takes a snapshot of the precise moment you were born, you may have found that your sun-sign or horoscope is the same as someone else’s and yet you feel entirely different than them. This is GREAT… because you are!

It is here, in each individual astrology chart where the invitation… no, the permission… is given for you to embrace being you. Even if you share similarities with others, the call is for you to take all YOUR own set of dreams, strengths, skills and perceptions and be your own person. You have insights and gifts that the world can ONLY experience through you!!

So, sweet friend, the permission of astrology is for you to be yourself… without apology! The world around you needs you to show up as your true self!

Now, I know… just ‘BE yourself’ is a cliché of eye-rolling proportions! But stay with me for just a bit longer and let’s look at what this might mean.

I know in my 54 orbits around the sun so far, I have spent so much time trying to figure out what others expected of me or wanted me to be. It has only been the last 13 years that I have consciously focused on trying to figure out what I want and who I am!

Embarking on a ‘Who am I?’ or ‘What do I want?’ mission was daunting to say the least! Where does one start… how does one truly figure out what or who you are??

In the last decade of my private practice, I have walked clients through these big questions using the points of their astrology chart and the 4 reflections listed below. The purpose of these reflections was to help the client come to their own understanding of where their motivations, challenges and strengths lie.

Once armed with this understanding it was easy for me to highlight the connections between these discoveries and the insights provided by their astrological chart (it would at times make me look like a rock star 😎). It was also very empowering to watch my clients not just recognize their strengths, but to believe they existed and embrace them!

If you would like to try this process on your own, please grab a journal or your favourite electronic device and answer the questions in the 4 reflections listed below. You then have a couple of choices…

  • Y  For self-exploration, download and explore the awesome astrology-based app that I have listed below (seriously… this app is freaking amazing) 😉

  • OR

  • If you would like a more in-depth experience, you can contact me directly to book a one-on-one session by emailing debbireegalle@gmail.com

NOTE: I actually do some version of these 4 steps regularly, as there is always another layer of self-discovery every time I go through them!

1) Reflect on your Past

  • This can be a great place to start

  • Think of past accomplishments

  • Ask yourself:

    • Which accomplishments did I accomplish for others?

    • Which accomplishments did I accomplish for myself even if others didn’t agree with or support me?

2) Reflect on challenges you have come through

  • You might want to write out some points of the challenges you are looking at

  • Ask yourself:

    • What have I done well repeatedly while going through challenges?

3) Reflect on everything that you fill your calendar with presently

  • You may want to make a list of these current activities or commitments

  • Go through each activity or commitment and ask yourself:

    • Which of the words in the list below does this activity or commitment incite?

      • Fulfillment OR Depletion

      • Joy OR Fear

      • Excitement OR Dread

      • Liberation OR Suffocation

Feel free to include any additional words that are relevant to you

4) Make a bucket list

  • A bucket list as it relates to this blog post is a list of experiences that you want to have

  • Perhaps you already have a bucket list that you have created and added to over the years

  • After you have pulled out an existing list or created a new one, write down feelings you hope to feel when doing or experiencing each item

  • As you assign a FEELING to each item on your list, ask yourself this:

    • Is this truly a bucket list item? Or is it a f*ck-it list item?

    • For me, I have held on to ideals about experiences I want to have based on the interests of others or based on interests I was told I ‘should’ have.

    • Doing this process allows me to weed out which of the experiences on my Bucket List would provide me the feelings I want to have.

Perhaps you have your own practices that you use to regularly connect with your true self! If you do, we at The Breath Connection would love to hear about them!

As promised, should you want to explore astrology for yourself, here is one of my favourite resources:

The Pattern App

  • This app can be found in Apple’s App Store or in the Google Play Store

  • This app allows you to enter in your birth information and provides you with extensive insights into the wonder that is you

  • This app also allows you to add significant others, friends and family to create bonds with… that then give incredible insights into your relationship journeys with these persons.

Feel free to connect with us on social media or via email anytime if you have questions or comments about all the info we share.

You are an amazing mystery that deserves to be explored… the world around you, TRULY is better because you’re in it ♥

Much Love,

Debbi
