The Sisterhood Advantage

Since we are celebrating creativity and new things this month, I thought it would be a great time to write a blog on how much I appreciate my two business partners and what we are collectively creating with our new venture… an online course!

I do not want to be all ‘woke’ about cultural feminism or go on and on about women in business etc but DAMN… working with other creative women is inspiring, super fun and has touched my soul in all kinds of unexpected ways.

I spent so many years in a crazy profession where competition was valued so much more than collaboration.  It was an environment where bosses (definitely not anyone I would call a ‘leader’) actually purposely pitted colleagues against each other during promotional opportunities … to what end is still a mystery to me other than to cause unnecessary drama and distrust.

Working collaboratively with women and building a business with them has been such a wonderful experience and just really… quite refreshing!  We find value in each others skillsets, respect each others’ ideas and opinions and celebrate our individual and team wins together (with gusto, dancing and multiple high 5’s!!!).  We also spend a lot of time laughing at each other and ourselves and we swear a lot too … like enough to need a swear bucket not just a swear jar!

Yet… there is still room to be vulnerable without fear or judgement on how it is going to affect the work that we do together.  I can’t even express in words… how knowing that in these moments, heartfelt support is waiting rather than criticism.

We have all had to learn so many new things this past year and it has been challenging at times but doing it together and sharing our individual perspectives and take aways has made it so much more enjoyable and improved the overall level of comprehension for what I found as very difficult subjects – i.e. marketing 😒

It’s more than just a ‘working together towards a common goal’ kind of feeling and has shifted my belief system from a ‘you must struggle to succeed’ to more of a ‘lets empower each other and rewrite the rules of success’!

I read this little snippet recently and it resonated with my true feelings and hopes for the future:

“Gone are the days of viewing other women in business as competitors. Instead, there's a growing recognition of the power that comes from collaboration. When women join forces, they bring diverse perspectives, innovative ideas, and unique strengths to the table. This synergy often leads to more comprehensive problem-solving, creative solutions, and ultimately, better business outcomes.”

So… do women really do it differently?  Well…. I think we can consciously choose to do it better and to focus on collaboration rather than competition.  I think we have always had this in us and it was just not a valued trait in the business world in the past.  I also believe this is not a ‘trend’ and working together to achieve bigger and better goals is going to grow into a movement that will sweep out the old and bring in the new.

It's not about competition; it's about lifting each other up and making waves together. What a different world it might be if we all worked more collaboratively😊

Much Love
