When Intuition... doesn't come naturally

I often wonder why some people seem to have the ability to see energy or have intuitive knowing with what appears to be very little effort. While others seem to struggle with sensing the energies all around them or believing that they have an inner voice that is speaking to them or sending them subtle signals to help guide them along this pathway of life.
I have pondered whether this is a completely natural inborn ability or if our environment growing up played a big part in forming our beliefs which could have either enhanced or impaired our intuitive prowess. A conundrum of nature vs nurture … another fascination of mine (might be a blog topic one day!).
I am pretty sure I fall into the latter category! Definitely a product of my environment!
Trusting my intuitiveness used to be fairly difficult, but the good news is that with a lot of practice you can hone your intuition and it opens up a whole new world… that is nothing short of spectacular! I am a real-life breathing, walking example of what dedicated practice can accomplish!
It didn’t happen overnight. At first, it was just learning to pause. To breathe. To listen. I had to quiet the constant mental chatter long enough to notice that there actually was a subtle voice underneath it all… a quiet knowing that was always there, patiently waiting for me to tune in.
The more I practiced tuning into my body, my breath, and the sensations that would arise in certain situations, the more I started to feel the edges of energy. Sometimes it would show up as a gut feeling, other times as a wave of emotion that wasn’t mine, or an image that would flash across my mind’s eye for no logical reason. Slowly, I began to trust these moments… not blindly, but with a kind of curious partnership.
Sometimes my intuitiveness moved faster than I was ready for and freaked me out a little and I even had some experiences that scared the heck out of me! It took a lot of ‘trust in the process’ moments, but I am happy to report that I am at a place now that these experiences are pretty darn cool and if I just relax and go along for the ride… I reap some great rewards and that ‘trust in the process’ mentality grows stronger.
Here’s what I’ve learned: intuition isn’t just for the “gifted.” It’s not some magical ability granted to a chosen few. It’s a skill. A muscle. And just like any muscle, it strengthens with use, repetition… and a little bit of faith.
The more I engaged with my intuition, through movement, stillness, breath, and reflection, the more it began to engage back. These days, it feels less like something I’m trying to access, and more like something I’m in a constant relationship with.
So, if you’ve ever thought, “I’m just not intuitive,” or “I don’t feel anything,” I want to offer a gentle reframe: you haven’t lost it—you’ve just been taught not to hear it. And with a bit of unlearning, with some breath and a whole lot of practice, it can come back online.
You might be surprised what opens up when you trust yourself… deeply. The world becomes more vibrant. Decisions become clearer. And the connection to yourself and others? It becomes something truly sacred.
Keep practicing. It’s worth it.
And I’ll be right here cheering you on.
Tomorrow night at Breath Therapy Class, we will be activating the Third Eye Chakra which is my absolute favourite chakra (I breathe into it a lot)!
Clearing and balancing the Third Eye Chakra will be a great start on your path to trusting your intuitiveness! Click here for the link to sign up for class!
