From the Vault ~ Full Moon Nervous System Meditation
Wow, how is it the last day of March already?!
This month our blog series focused on internal regulating practices by way of acknowledging and caring for our nervous system.
The nervous system is the body’s internal communication network, constantly sending and receiving signals between the brain, organs, muscles, and tissues.
Additionally, it helps you respond to your environment by detecting safety or threat and coordinating physical, emotional, and behavioral reactions.
The nervous system includes:
The Sympathetic System, which mobilizes you for action… fight or flight.
The Parasympathetic System, which supports rest, digestion, and restoration.
A key part of the parasympathetic system is the vagus nerve.
The vagus nerve travels from the brainstem down through the diaphragm and into the heart and digestive organs.
It plays a central role in activating the parasympathetic system.
Moving the diaphragm with slow, steady breathing stimulates this powerful vagus nerve to activate the parasympathetic system… our rest and digest state. This is why focused breathing can have such a powerful calming and regulating effect.
Meditation is a great way in which we provide space for ourselves to focus our breath.
To wrap up this month’s focus on nervous system regulation we are sharing a meditation from our vault 🧡
This week’s vault offering is from September 30, 2020… Full Moon Meditation for the Nervous System
