When Pain Whispers
Sweet Friends, what if your pain wasn't your enemy? 🤔
Oh trust me, I get it! When your low back is aching, your knee is tender walking up the stairs or your shoulder is grumbling… pause, breathe and be grateful is likely the LAST thing you want to hear!
What if (stay with me), this short pause and deep breath could shift your pain perspective from:
Will my back ever stop hurting
Here I go, I guess knee pain is the new normal as I age
This shoulder hates me
TO…
When I breath deeply and get up out of my chair as I exhale, it truly does support my back
With conscious breathing and core engagement, I bet can support my knees so they can keep moving me forward
My shoulder feels better now than it did a few weeks ago
Our discomfort isn't actually there to torment us… it's our body's way of communicating that something needs our attention. These body communications often start as whispers and escalate to louder (more painful) communications if ignored.
The good news here is that we ALWAYS have the power to pause, breathe and observe… observing where we are experiencing pain and what our thoughts are in response to this pain is an important fist step.
When we pause to observe, instead of pushing through, something quietly begins to change…. self-trust, clarity and self-awareness blooms.
Try this gentle two-step practice any time discomfort speaks up.
#1 ~ Breathe.
When you notice pain, resist the urge to tense and brace against it.
Instead, pause and take a slow breath directing it toward the pain
Allow your long exhale to invite the surrounding muscles to soften.
Breath is your body's fastest signal that it's safe to let go… allowing discomfort to ease almost immediately.
#2 ~ Observe.
Notice the thoughts that arrived with the pain… maybe it’s "Why is this always painful," or "I'll never get past this"
Our discomfort is so often tangled up with worried thinking that keeps us stuck.
Simply observing these thoughts ~ without judgment ~ begins to loosen their grip…"Why is this always painful," becomes “I am grateful for the times the pain lessens” and "I'll never get past this" becomes “Each day I feel better than the day before”
Observing the negative thoughts that accompany our pain, is the first step to reframing these thoughts from pain to healing.
The two-steps of this simple practice are actually the first two steps of what we lovingly call Our Healing Method 🧡
Our Healing Method (OHM) is a simple, four-part approach of breathe, observe, apply, love that has helped hundreds of our clients gently take their healing back into their own hands.
And here's the sweet part: we've put the whole method into a FREE guide, so you can carry all four steps with you. If today's little practice resonated, we would love for you to have it!
You can grab Our Healing Method PDF HERE, completely free of charge 🤩
Your body has always known how to heal… sometimes it just needs us to stop, breathe, and listen… one sweet breath at a time.
Love,
