The Wisdom of the Trees

The Wisdom of the Trees

October 20, 2026•2 min read

Have you watched the trees lately? 🍂

There's such breathtaking beauty in an October tree in full colour… and then, almost overnight, those glorious leaves begin to drift down and away.

What strikes me most is how the trees do it.

No struggle.

No clinging.

No anxious grasping at what was.

When it's time, they simply… let go.

And in that release, they aren't dying… they're making room for the rest they need and the growth that will come again in spring 🌱

I find myself wondering what the trees might be trying to teach us 🤔

Many of us (myself included) are practiced holder-on’rs, aren't we?

We hold onto worry, old hurts, the way we think things should be, and tension we've carried so long we've forgotten what it feels like to exist without it.

All this holding takes a quiet toll on the body:

  • clenched jaw,

  • tight shoulders,

  • breath we never quite let all the way out.

So, here's our gentle invitation for this week:

  • find a quiet moment,

  • take a slow breath in,

  • exhale a long unhurried breath,

  • ask yourself softly… what am I ready to let go of?

It might be something big, or something as simple as the tension in between your shoulder blades in this moment.

You don't have to force anything or figure it all out.

Just notice, breathe, and allow your exhale to help you release what no longer needs to be held onto… the way a tree lets its leaves fall in autumn.

Letting go isn't loss, sweet friends.

Like the trees, we release not to become less, but to make room for more… rest, reset, grace, ease and for what's coming next.

Aging with grace and vitality asks us for the willingness to soften our grip and trust the beautiful season we're in.

This week let's practice the quiet art of letting go, one sweet breath, and falling leaf, at a time. 🧡
